FROM built four seasons of audience investment on the promise that the mythology was coherent. Season Three starts making good on that, which turns out to carry its own risks.

The show is better when it doesn't answer questions than when it does. The practical details of the monsters are less terrifying than the conceptual ambiguity was. This is a structural problem the showrunners may not have anticipated.
