Agustín Arana is an actor, born 1968.
Agustín Arana was a semi-professional boxer and a pop singer before he was a telenovela leading man. He grew up on a farm in Veracruz, around horses, with a favourite called Lagartijó that would let nobody else ride it. He fought around Mexico. Then he joined Garibaldi, the second lineup to carry that name, which put him on television as a performer rather than as an actor.
The switch worked because Mexican prime-time drama has a specific need he fits: a physically credible man who can also play soft. The run of parts bears it out. He has stayed in that lane for close to two decades, which in telenovela terms is a compliment rather than a complaint: the form runs on actors an audience trusts on sight, and it eats performers who cannot sustain a character across hundreds of episodes. The 2023 film ¿Quieres ser mi hijo? is one of his rarer moves outside it.

Where to start with Agustín Arana
La fea más bella is the obvious start and the right one: a long, enormously popular comedy where Arana plays Omar Carvajal, and the best short course in what he does inside a large ensemble.
If you would rather watch him carry the romantic lead, go to Hasta que el dinero nos separe, where the whole engine is money and class friction and he is on screen constantly. Palabra de Mujer and Para Volver a Amar are the dramatic register, and worth taking in that order.
Road to Destiny is the later, glossier work. ¿Quieres ser mi hijo? is the outlier and the only film here, which makes it the one credit that shows him working at feature length.
