Aimee Mullins is an actor, born 1976.
Aimee Mullins came to acting third, after two careers that had nothing obvious to do with it. Born with a medical condition that led to both her legs being amputated below the knee, she became the first amputee to compete against nondisabled athletes in NCAA events, and competed at the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta. Modeling followed in 1999, acting in 2002, and public speaking has run alongside all of it, including at TED.
The filmography is small and skews toward directors who like an unsettled tone. She is Raine in Quid Pro Quo (2008), Katherine Holm in Young Ones and Carrie in Rob the Mob, both 2014, Sasha in Appropriate Behavior, Ashley Brighterhouse in Unsane (2018), Anya in Devs (2020). The widest audience she has reached is Stranger Things, where she plays Terry Ives.
Very little has been written about the acting itself, and padding this page out would mean inventing it. Where to start with Aimee Mullins
Nine credits, and the two that matter are both television. Stranger Things is where most people will meet her, in a role that sits at the edge of the show's mythology and asks for stillness rather than plot mechanics. Devs is the better performance and the better fit, since it is a series built out of quiet rooms and long takes, and Mullins is very good inside that.
For film, Unsane is the sharpest thing in the pool even though she is in support, and Young Ones is worth it for the arid near-future look of the thing. Rob the Mob and Appropriate Behavior are the low-key independents. Quid Pro Quo is her earliest credit here and the oddest film on the list.
