André Mattos
André Mattos is an actor, born 1961.
André Mattos built a Brazilian television career that most international viewers have only seen the edge of. He was Fininho on the sketch comedy Escolinha do Professor Raimundo, John VI of Portugal in the historical miniseries O Quinto dos Infernos, and Madruga in the telenovela Senhora do Destino. None of those travel. What travels is Narcos, where he plays Jorge Luis Ochoa.
The Brazilian credits here show the shape of the work: Delegado Teixeira in A Grande Família, Pachola across Caminhos do Coração and Os Mutantes, Augustin in Kubanacan, William in Alta Estação, Falstaff in Belaventura, Moreira in Tô de Graça, Sargento Figueira in DOM. Telenovela and sitcom in roughly equal measure, usually as an authority figure, usually with a comic angle running underneath.
The film work is smaller and better known abroad. He plays Fortunato in Elite Squad: The Enemy Within, and won the Grande Prêmio do Cinema Brasileiro for Best Supporting Actor for it. He also turns up as the Santos coach in Pelé: Birth of a Legend. More recent credits include the 2023 series The Childhood of Romeo and Juliet and a 2026 feature.

Where to start with André Mattos
Non-Brazilian viewers should start with Elite Squad: The Enemy Within, the award-winning role and the best film on the list, a hard police thriller in which Mattos plays Fortunato.
Narcos is the other easy entry: he is Jorge Luis Ochoa, the part is small, and it is where most people outside Brazil have met him. After that it depends on your appetite for subtitled television. A Grande Família is the long-running sitcom, Kubanacan and Belaventura are the telenovelas at their most playful, and DOM is the modern crime series. Pelé: Birth of a Legend has the widest reach and the least for him to do.
