Ashleigh Murray

Ashleigh Murray is an actor, born 1996.

Riverdale is the whole shape of it so far. Ashleigh Murray played Josie McCoy, lead singer of Josie and the Pussycats, from 2017 to 2019, carried the character into the spin-off Katy Keene in 2020, and came back to the parent show as a guest in 2021 and again in 2023, which is an unusual amount of loyalty running in both directions.

She is a singer being cast as a singer, and the shows that used her best gave her real numbers to perform rather than a guitar to hold. Katy Keene in particular was built to let its cast sing, and it lasted a single year, which cost her the vehicle the Riverdale role had earned.

The rest of the list is short and varied: Deidra & Laney Rob a Train (2017), Loryn in the Valley Girl remake (2020), Melissa in the sitcom Alex, Inc., a voice part in the Rugrats revival, and leads in Tom Swift (2022) and The Other Black Girl (2023), neither of those last two among the credits listed here. It reads as a career still in its opening act: one very visible role, and no settled second one yet.

Where to start with Ashleigh Murray

Riverdale is where to start and there is no way around it, though the honest advice is to watch the first two seasons and treat what comes after as a different programme. Josie is the best-served of the supporting characters early on, and Murray gets to sing properly rather than mime.

Katy Keene is the better showcase and the one worth actively seeking out: lighter, more musical, and built to give her a lead before it ran out of time. Valley Girl is a pleasant remake with more singing in it. Alex, Inc. is the early sitcom credit and Rugrats the voice work, both minor. Deidra & Laney Rob a Train, the film that first got her noticed, is not among the credits listed here.
