Billy MacLellan
Billy MacLellan is an actor, born 1974.
MacLellan is from Cape Breton and has spent his career inside the Canadian production system, which means the credit list reads like a tour of everything shot in Ontario and Nova Scotia since 2002: Murdoch Mysteries, Flashpoint, ReGenesis, Bomb Girls, Cracked, Combat Hospital, Pretty Hard Cases, Diggstown.
The prize-winning part of his work is not on screen at all. He has taken the ACTRA Award for Outstanding Male Voice Performance twice, in 2012 for the radio drama Afghanada and in 2023 for narrating the audiobook of Hugh MacLennan's Each Man's Son. That is a specific and slightly old-fashioned skill, and it explains something about his screen presence, which achieves a lot at very low volume.
On film he is used best in small, weathered roles: Frank in Maudie, set in the Nova Scotia he comes from; the Reverend in The Silence; Charlie Williams in Nobody; Fern Flaman in the hockey picture Goalie. He appears in Slings and Arrows as Laertes, which is a decent joke to have on a Canadian stage actor's CV.
The last stretch has brought more of the same, steadily: Kyle Bergin in I Will Find You, Henry Bloch in Memory of a Killer, a deputy in Normal, all landing in 2026. It is not a famous career. It is a working one, and the work is good.

Where to start with Billy MacLellan
If you watch one thing here, make it Maudie, a quiet biographical picture where everyone plays small and he fits the scale exactly. Then Nobody for the opposite register, a fast and very violent action comedy.
Slings & Arrows is the connoisseur's pick, a series about a Shakespeare festival that is funnier about actors than almost anything else on television. Diggstown and Murdoch Mysteries are the Canadian television staples and both give him room, The Silence is the horror entry, and Goalie is the hockey biopic, which suits the weathered thing he does. Defiance is there for the science fiction crowd.
