Calah Lane
Calah Lane was born in Irving, Texas and started performing at four, which in practice meant commercials, short films and single-episode television parts, the long unremarkable apprenticeship most child actors never graduate from. The first role with any weight was the young Laurel in This Is Us in 2021.
Two years later she was Noodle in Wonka, opposite Timothee Chalamet and directed by Paul King, and the film leans on that relationship far more than the marketing suggested. Noodle is the orphan who has already stopped expecting anything, which makes her the only sceptic in a story otherwise powered by belief, and Lane plays the thaw without ever tipping into sweetness. It brought a Critics' Choice nomination for best young performer and an NAACP Image Award nomination for outstanding youth performance.
She sings as well, and released a single of her own in 2024. The filmography is short, which is what you would expect this early, and the interesting part is entirely in front of her.

Where to start with Calah Lane
Everything rests on Wonka, so watch that. Noodle is the film's spine, the scenes between her and the lead are what stop the thing floating away, and it is the clearest evidence of what Lane can do, which is play guarded without playing sullen.
The other two credits are early and small, but the Chris Morris satire The Day Shall Come is a fine film in its own right and worth your time regardless of how briefly she appears, and Kidding is a single-episode part in a series with a much stranger sensibility than its premise implies. Her role as the young Laurel in This Is Us, the job that got her seen, is not among the credits listed here.
