Choi Dae-hoon

Korean television runs on actors like Choi Dae-hoon, and the industry works that out well before the audience learns the name. Born in 1980, he has spent his career in the second and third slots on the call sheet, mostly inside procedurals and courtrooms: detectives, prosecutors, defence lawyers, company men. Lawless Lawyer, One Dollar Lawyer, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, The Judge from Hell and Pro Bono all sit in the same neighbourhood, and he is a different animal in each of them.

The specific thing he does is withhold. His characters tend to be men with a decent surface and a bad seam running underneath, and he refuses to signal which one is load bearing. As Park Jung-je in Beyond Evil he plays a police chief's son wound into a small town's oldest case, and the performance holds because the strain reads as ordinary fatigue right up until it does not. The Baeksang Arts Awards nominated him for that role in 2021, then gave him the supporting-actor prize in 2025 for Bu Sang-gil in When Life Gives You Tangerines.

Around that spine there is more variety than the typecasting suggests: an entertainment executive in Extracurricular, a sleep doctor in Decision to Leave, period violence in Uprising, and a turn in The Judge from Hell where the credit lists him as both a detective and a demon. Two 2026 series, The WONDERfools and Agent Kim Reactivated, keep the run going.
