Christopher Hitchens
Christopher Hitchens spent thirty years as a left-wing polemicist and then broke with most of that milieu over Iraq, which cost him friendships he wrote about at length. He was a very good literary critic and an extremely fast writer, and the prose is the reason people still read him whether or not they agree with a word of it. He wrote about his own cancer diagnosis without any consolation and kept filing until close to the end.

Where to start with Christopher Hitchens
God is not great is the famous one and the least representative, a broadside that is more fun than it is careful. The Missionary Position is the short attack on Mother Teresa and the purest example of what he did. Thomas Jefferson is the short biography and shows the serious historian underneath. Everyday Drinking is the collection about alcohol and the funniest thing here.
