Clive Ashborn

Clive Ashborn is an actor.

Clive Ashborn is an English actor who graduated from the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts in 2001, and the public record on him is thin. Five film credits sit on this page, and two of them are the same job done twice.

He is Guy Fawkes in V for Vendetta, the credit he is best known for and the one worth clarifying: this is the historical figure in the film's opening, not the masked character who later wears his likeness. He then played Koleniko, one of the encrusted crew of the Flying Dutchman, in both Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and At World's End, which meant two enormous productions spent under heavy prosthetics. A newsreader in the 2012 Total Recall follows the same logic of being seen without being seen.

The exception is The Love Witch, where he plays Professor King, an academic in the occult, in a film shot to look like 1960s Technicolor. It is the one credit here where you can watch him actually work.

Where to start with Clive Ashborn

With five credits there is not much routing to do. V for Vendetta is what people come here for, and his part is the historical prologue rather than the man in the mask, so adjust expectations before pressing play.

The Love Witch is the film to actually watch. It is a strange, gorgeous pastiche of sixties melodrama shot in lush Technicolor style, and his occult professor is a proper speaking part rather than a costume.

His pirate work, in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, is the same character under the same makeup, so pick either. Total Recall is a newsreader on a screen.
