Colleen O'Shaughnessey
Colleen O'Shaughnessey is an actor, born 1971.
The same voice has played Miles "Tails" Prower since 2010, across television, games and, since 2020, the live-action Sonic films, and it belongs to Colleen O'Shaughnessey. That continuity is rarer than it sounds. Western animation routinely recasts a beloved game character with a film star the moment a franchise crosses into cinemas, and Sonic did not. Her first appearance in the movies was even uncredited, which makes the eventual insistence on keeping her feel less like nostalgia and more like the producers noticing that nobody else sounds right.
What she does with Tails is the reason. She pitches him high without pitching him cute, so he reads as a capable young engineer rather than a mascot, and she can drop the voice into panic or hurt without it curdling into baby talk. That control is what makes the character survive being written and rewritten across decades of different writers.
The rest of her career is a solid record of American animation and anime dubbing. Jazz Fenton in Danny Phantom is the older sister who is right about everything and gets ignored anyway. Wasp in The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes put her on a superhero team as a regular. She dubbed Sora Takenouchi in Digimon, and Ino Yamanaka and Konohamaru in Naruto, which for a generation of English-language anime viewers means her voice is folded into two enormous franchises at once. Where to start with Colleen O'Shaughnessey
Two entry points, depending on why you are here. For Tails, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the first film where he is a real character rather than a cameo and where she gets scenes to play rather than lines to deliver. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles continue that, and Sonic Boom is the loosest, funniest version of the character she has been given.
If you want the non-Sonic work, Danny Phantom is the best showcase: Jazz gets exasperation, warmth and a running joke about being unheard, and O'Shaughnessey plays all three at once. The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes is the closest she has come to carrying a series. Digimon: The Movie is a curiosity now, worth it mainly to hear how early the range was there. Justice League Dark shows what she does with an adult register, which is not something the rest of the list asks for.
