Dido
Dido is an English singer and songwriter, born Dido Armstrong in London in 1971 to a poet mother and a publisher father, who studied classical music from six and worked as a literary agent while singing with her brother's band. No Angel sold twenty-one million copies and became the best-selling album in Britain in 2001, helped enormously by Eminem sampling Thank You on Stan. She then largely withdrew from public life for long stretches, which is unusual at that scale.

Where to start with Dido
No Angel is the album, and it is a more melancholy record than its ubiquity in coffee shops suggested at the time. Life for Rent is the follow-up and sold enormously on the strength of the first. Stans is the recent documentary about Eminem fandom that revisits her part in it, and Live 8 is the concert film.
