Duane Evans Jr. is an actor, born 2003.
A prime-time soap got him started. Evans played Michael Hampton-Rees on Shortland Street, the TVNZ 2 medical drama that has served as New Zealand's de facto acting school for decades, in a recurring run from 2015 to 2017. He was eleven or twelve when it began.
What followed is a tidy example of a local career going international without the actor having to move countries to do it. Netflix cast him as Rhino in Sweet Tooth. TVNZ+ gave him one of the leads in the young adult comedy miniseries Duckrockers. The Avatar sequels brought him in as Rotxo, a supporting part he has carried from Avatar: The Way of Water into Avatar: Fire and Ash with a fourth film already on the books, which is the kind of long contract that either builds an actor or parks him for a decade.
The smaller jobs are where the acting lives so far. The Convert is a colonial-era historical drama, The Legend of Baron To'a is a broad action comedy, and Spartacus: House of Ashur is a Starz revival of the swords-and-sandals series, which asks its cast to play big and loud. Three registers, three very different rooms, and he is still only in his early twenties.

Where to start with Duane Evans Jr.
Skip ahead to The Convert if you want to see him act. It is a colonial-era drama where the tension sits between people sharing a country and almost nothing else, and he holds his ground inside a serious ensemble.
Spartacus: House of Ashur is the fun one, a Starz revival that runs on blood, politics and volume, and he gets to be part of the machine rather than an extra in it.
The Avatar films are the profile rather than the showcase. Avatar: The Way of Water introduces Rotxo among the reef clan, Avatar: Fire and Ash brings him back, and Avatar 4 is already on his slate. None of them is where you go to watch him work, but they are why you know the name at all.
