Eddie Frierson

Eddie Frierson is an actor, born 1959.

Frierson is a voice actor and writer whose name sits in the credits of a lot of films you have seen and whose voice you have never consciously heard. Most of the work is group and additional voices: Tangled, Frozen, Hotel Transylvania, ParaNorman, Chicken Little, Curious George, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, and as recently as KPop Demon Hunters. That is the loop-group trade, the actors hired to fill a room with people, and it is skilled work designed to be invisible.

There are named parts too. He is the Skunk in Doctor Dolittle, a police officer in Osmosis Jones, and Commander Aldrin in the animated moon-landing picture Fly Me to the Moon. Away from film he has worked in video games, including Medal of Honor: Airborne, and in anime dubbing. There is no leading role here and no point pretending otherwise, but there is a long, steady, unglamorous body of work.

Where to start with Eddie Frierson

There is no headline performance to point you at, so treat this as a listening exercise instead. Fly Me to the Moon gives him an actual named character and is the closest thing to a showcase. Doctor Dolittle has him as a talking skunk, a real comic part with a punchline attached.

After that, the pleasure is in the background. Put on ParaNorman or Frozen or Tangled and pay attention to the crowds: the passing townspeople, the half-heard argument in the next room, the market that sounds populated. Somebody is hired to build that texture, and on these films it was partly him.
