Eric Stonestreet
Eric Stonestreet is an actor, born 1971.
Before the sitcom, Stonestreet turned up where a working character actor turns up: Sheldon the desk clerk in Almost Famous in 2000, and a recurring part as Ronnie Litre on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, which is where he first got noticed.
Then Modern Family, and Cameron Tucker from 2009 to 2020. He won two Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series out of three nominations, and the role is harder than it looks from outside. Cam is written broad, loud and theatrical, permanently one degree away from caricature, and Stonestreet's entire contribution is knowing precisely where that line sits and stopping just short of it every week. It is far easier to do badly than the trophies suggest.
Film has mostly used him as comic support, Kirk in Bad Teacher and Big Chuck in Identity Thief, or as a voice, Duke across The Secret Life of Pets and its 2019 sequel, Minimus in Sofia the First. The serious attempts exist but are sparse: Marty Landry in The Loft, Ken Duberstein in Confirmation.
Since the sitcom ended he has stayed in television, Magnus Antas in The Santa Clauses, Ian Osofsky in American Auto, and a role in Dexter: Resurrection in 2025. Nothing has matched the decade of Cameron Tucker, which tends to be the fate of an actor who did one thing at a very high level for a very long time.

Where to start with Eric Stonestreet
Everything routes through Modern Family and there is no point pretending otherwise. It is the performance he will be remembered for, and almost any episode will tell you whether you want more of it.
For the film work, Bad Teacher and Identity Thief are the broad studio comedies and they use him exactly as you would expect. The Loft is the outlier, a nasty thriller that lets him play something other than warmth, and Confirmation is the straight dramatic credit worth checking. The Secret Life of Pets is the one to put on for children, and Almost Famous is a small early credit from years before anybody knew his name.
