Erica Hubbard
Hubbard grew up in Chicago and spent the early 2000s where a great many young American actresses start: teen films, in supporting parts with two or three scenes each. She is Madison in A Cinderella Story, a soccer teammate in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Sommer in Simon Says, and she had an early series run on Do Over.
Akeelah and the Bee, in 2006, is the step up. As Kiana she belongs to the world Akeelah is trying to leave, and Hubbard plays the scepticism about a gifted kid's ambitions as something protective rather than mean, which is a harder note than the script strictly requires.
Television is where the actual career is. She played Cassie Sutton on the family drama Lincoln Heights from 2007 to 2009, then Kita Whitmore on BET's Let's Stay Together from 2011 to 2014, the longest run on her CV. She also voices Abbey in the animated series The Replacements, and appears as herself in the documentary Light Girls. Away from acting she set up the Erica Hubbard Foundation, which works with young people in at-risk communities.

Where to start with Erica Hubbard
The obvious entry is also the correct one. Akeelah and the Bee is the best film she has been in, and Kiana gives her the least sentimental register available on this page.
For the long-form work, Lincoln Heights is the real showcase, three years of family drama in which Cassie Sutton is allowed to be difficult rather than decorative, and Let's Stay Together is the sitcom run that followed and outlasted it.
The early films are minor but pleasant to spot her in: Madison in A Cinderella Story, a teammate in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Sommer in Simon Says. The Replacements is the voice credit, as Abbey, and worth a listen if you want to hear a different instrument entirely.
