Ernesto Sabato is an author.
Ernesto Sabato was an Argentine novelist, essayist and painter who began as a physicist, worked at the Curie laboratory in Paris, and then abandoned science for literature. He published only three novels across sixty years, and each is darker than the last. After the fall of the military dictatorship he chaired the national commission on the disappeared, whose report, Nunca Mas, is one of the founding documents of Argentina's reckoning with the junta. According to the BBC he won some of the most prestigious prizes in Hispanic literature and became very influential across Latin America; on his passing El Pais called him the last classic writer in Argentine literature.

Where to start with Ernesto Sabato
El túnel is the first stop, a short airless confession by a painter who reasons his way into obsession, and you can finish it in an evening. Sobre héroes y tumbas is the big one, and the section published separately as Informe Sobre Ciegos is the most deranged thing in Argentine literature. Abaddón el exterminador repeats the trick with less control, and Hombres y engranajes is the sharpest of the essays.
