Finn Wolfhard

Finn Wolfhard was born in Vancouver in 2002 and was thirteen when Stranger Things premiered with him as Mike Wheeler. The show ran from 2016 to 2025, so he did the entire business of growing up in front of an audience of tens of millions, which historically does not end well and appears, so far, to have ended fine.

The reason he was good on that show from the start is that he talks like an actual child: fast, over the top of other people, without the polished cadence that television usually trains into young actors. Richie Tozier in It is the fullest use of it, the loudest and most irritating kid in the frame, whose jokes are obviously a defence mechanism. Wolfhard's willingness to be annoying is his most valuable asset, and the performance that best proves the point is Ziggy in When You Finish Saving the World, a self-absorbed teenage musician who is genuinely hard to like and never softened for the audience.

He has spent the years since spreading the bets rather than cashing them. Trevor in two Ghostbusters revivals, the young Boris in The Goldfinch, voice work as Pugsley in The Addams Family and Candlewick in Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, and a move behind the camera: he co-directed Hell of a Summer in 2025. He is also a working musician.
