Fred Tatasciore

Fred Tatasciore owns one of the most heavily used low registers in American animation. He voices the Hulk, Volstagg and Beast across Marvel media, Solomon Grundy and Bane on the DC side, and Yosemite Sam, Taz and Michigan J. Frog for Warner Bros. In games he is Soldier: 76 and Shao Kahn, plus Dingodile and Kakuzu elsewhere. From 2021 to 2024 he starred as the title character in the adult animated series Hit-Monkey.

The specific skill is making size audible. A big character sounds big because of where the breath sits and how slowly the consonants land, and Tatasciore can produce that weight without letting it collapse into a generic monster growl. Benzo in Arcane is a large man playing gentle, which is a harder note than it sounds. Adam in Invincible, Turk in Love, Death and Robots, and the Mirror Man in The Huntsman: Winter's War are three different solutions to the same problem: how to sound physically present when the voice is the only body you have.

The working reality of the job is the long tail of credits that say Additional Voices: Tangled, Kung Fu Panda 2 and 3, Enchanted, Meet the Robinsons, the Hotel Transylvania films, The Secret Life of Pets 2, What If...?. That is the unglamorous engine room of animation, where one performer fills a crowd. He also has the occasional credit that is pure novelty value, most obviously Team America: World Police, where the character he voices is Samuel L. Jackson.
