Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson
Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson is an actor, born 1988.
Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson was a strongman first and remains one: an Icelandic competitor from Reykjavík, born in 1988, with one of the most decorated records in the sport. Screen work found him for the obvious reason. He is enormous, and television needed someone who could stand next to a normal-sized actor and make the frame feel wrong.
He is best known for playing Gregor Clegane on Game of Thrones, a part that required almost no dialogue and a great deal of physical menace. That series is not among the credits listed here, though the behind-the-scenes documentary Game of Thrones: The Last Watch is, and it is the better watch anyway for seeing what he actually did on those sets.
Since then the casting has stayed consistent. Robert Eggers used him in The Northman as Thorfinnr Tooth-Gnasher, which is the smartest deployment of him so far, because that film is about bodies doing violent physical work and he does not have to act around his own size. Kickboxer: Retaliation put him in a ring as Mongkut, Pharaoh's War and Finally Dawn gave him smaller turns, and Masters of the Universe has him listed as Goat Man for 2026. It is not a subtle filmography and he does not pretend otherwise, but within it Björnsson has been well used by the directors who understood that he is a physical fact rather than a character actor.

Where to start with Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson
The Northman first, with no real competition. Eggers made a film in which strength, ritual and physical labour are the subject, so Björnsson is doing something the story needs rather than standing around being large.
Then Game of Thrones: The Last Watch, the documentary shot during the final production, which is where you can watch the gap between the man and the armoured monster he was hired to be. Kickboxer: Retaliation is the honest genre pick: a fight film that exists to put him opposite a smaller, faster opponent, and it delivers exactly that. Pharaoh's War and Finally Dawn are for completists only. Masters of the Universe is the one still ahead, with him cast as Goat Man.
