Happy Anderson is a stage actor, on and off Broadway, who has spent the past decade making American film and television a little more unsettling. On screen he is usually large, soft spoken and slightly wrong.
The role that matters is Jerry Brudos in Mindhunter. It is an interview part, and Anderson plays it as a chatty, wheedling, faintly pathetic man who becomes frightening precisely because he is so eager to be liked. David Fincher's series was full of good performances in that chair and Anderson's is one of the two or three anybody remembers. He returned to the character for Netflix's Monster: The Ed Gein Story in 2025.
Everything else is texture: Jimmy Fester on The Knick, the River Man in Bird Box, a reverend in The New Mutants, a detective in Quarry, a biker in The Bikeriders. He is the actor you hire when a scene needs weight in the corner of the frame, and his credit list doubles as a decent map of fifteen years of American genre film.

Where to start with Happy Anderson
MINDHUNTER is the only real answer, and his episodes work almost as a standalone: long interview scenes that show what a good actor can do with a chair, a table and no way to move.
After that, The Knick is the best series he has been a regular in, and Jimmy is a useful reminder that he can play warmth. Cold in July is the small crime film worth finding. The Bikeriders and Bird Box are the biggest audiences he has played to, both supporting parts that do exactly what they need to. Quarry is the underseen one, a 1970s-set crime series with a real look to it. Bright is there if you want to see him inside a fantasy police film that did not come off.
