Hasan Minhaj
Hasan Minhaj is an actor, born 1985.
Minhaj came out of California stand-up and into the correspondent's chair on The Daily Show, a job that teaches a comic to hold a straight face while delivering research. He built the touring hour Homecoming King around his own family, and the specificity of it, Indian American, Californian, Muslim, second generation, became the material rather than the framing.
Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj (2018) is the show that made him. The format was a weekly deep-dive monologue delivered in front of an enormous wraparound screen, closer to an illustrated lecture with jokes than to late night, and it went at subjects American television usually leaves alone. It won an Emmy, a Peabody and two Webby Awards, and in 2019 he made Time's list of the hundred most influential people in the world.
The screen career has not matched the stage one. He is a reliable supporting comic presence and very little more: Duffer in The Spy Who Dumped Me, Joe in Rough Night, Doug Khan in No Hard Feelings, Marshall in It Ends with Us, Marty in Babes, a sketch artist in Haunted Mansion. Ajay Singh in TRON: Ares (2025) is the largest canvas anyone has handed him.
What he does best still needs a stage, a camera pointed at him alone, and a long runway before the payoff.

Where to start with Hasan Minhaj
The argument for him is Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj. Pick the episodes on subjects nobody else was covering, where the research does as much work as the jokes. It is the rare topical show that ages into a document rather than out of one.
Work backwards to The Daily Show, where the correspondent pieces are shorter, meaner and show him learning to sell a line completely straight.
The films are supporting roles, so choose by the film rather than the performance. No Hard Feelings and Babes use him well, The Spy Who Dumped Me barely uses him at all, It Ends with Us gives him the thankless best-friend slot, and TRON: Ares is the studio swing. If you only want the stand-up, the hour to find is Homecoming King, which is not among the credits listed here.
