Hiro Shimono
Hiro Shimono is an actor, born 1980.
Hiro Shimono was born in Tokyo in 1980 and is affiliated with the agency I'm Enterprise. He is a singer as well as a voice actor, and his casting has been remarkably consistent for two decades: if a role calls for a young man whose nerves are permanently one notch from breaking, the shortlist starts with him.
Zenitsu Agatsuma in Demon Slayer is the extreme version and the one that made him a household voice, a panic attack rendered as a sustained scream held right at the edge of tears, which he then has to switch off in an instant when the character stops being afraid. Connie Springer in Attack on Titan is the same frequency used for comedy first and then, gradually and without any change in technique, for something much bleaker as the series wears its cast down. Dabi in My Hero Academia is the interesting outlier, played almost bored, low and dry, and it works precisely because everything else in his range is loud.
The breadth underneath those three is substantial: Naki in Tokyo Ghoul, Alone in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, Isidro in Berserk, Hanzo Urushihara in The Devil Is a Part-Timer!, Oshikiri across both Junji Ito anthologies, Nacht Faust in Black Clover, Julian Loki in Blue Lock, Taketo Aida in Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. He also voices Keima Katsuragi in The World God Only Knows, Rex in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Ryunosuke Naruhodo in The Great Ace Attorney, none of which are catalogued here.

Where to start with Hiro Shimono
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba first, because Zenitsu is the loudest and most divisive performance in modern shonen and you should form your own opinion of it early. If it works on you, Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train is the best-directed showcase of the same character.
Then Attack on Titan, which is the more impressive long-form performance: Connie starts as comic relief and Shimono has to keep the same voice while the show hollows the character out. My Hero Academia is the corrective, a cold, quiet register nobody would guess belongs to Zenitsu. After that, Tokyo Ghoul for a nastier supporting turn, The Devil Is a Part-Timer! for the comic timing with nothing at stake, and Junji Ito Collection if you want him in horror, where the frayed quality he trades on is used straight rather than for laughs.
Demon Slayer and the shonen leads
Zenitsu is the role that made him globally recognisable, a character whose entire comic function is terror at maximum volume, and who becomes something else altogether when he fights. Mugen Train is the highest-grossing Japanese film ever made.
Attack on Titan
Connie Springer runs the entire length of the series and changes more than almost anyone in it, from comic relief into something much harder. The compilation films are the same material recut, and Junior High is the parody.
The stranger shows
The work away from the big franchises. Dorohedoro is the best of them and one of the most distinctive-looking series of recent years. xxxHOLiC is the CLAMP adaptation, and The Devil Is a Part-Timer is a silly premise done properly.
