Hoyeon

Hoyeon is an actor, born 1994.

Hoyeon arrived from modeling, and the earliest rows on this page are not acting jobs at all: Korean television appearances as herself, on Attraction TV in 2016 and The Manager in 2018. The acting debut came in 2021 with Squid Game, where she played Kang Sae-byeok, Player 067.

That single role did the work of a decade. It won her a Screen Actors Guild award and an Emmy nomination, and it turned a first-time actor into a globally recognizable face inside a few weeks.

What she is good at, on this evidence, is stillness. Sae-byeok is a performance built largely out of refusal: minimal expression, minimal dialogue, and a wariness that never quite drops, which is exactly what makes the warmer moments land. It is a strange skill for a debut, and it is closer to what good models do than most screen acting is.

The follow-up has been deliberate rather than fast. She appeared in Disclaimer in 2024 as Jisoo, took a supporting turn the same year in Chicken Nugget as Hong Cha, and appears in the 2026 film Hope as Lim Sung-ae. That is a very short filmography for a face this well known, and it is fair to say the case for her as an actor still rests on one series.

Where to start with Hoyeon

There is only one place to start, and it is Squid Game. Watch it for her rather than for the premise: she is the performer the camera keeps returning to, and the work holds up now that the show has become a merchandising event. After that the page thins out fast. Disclaimer is the better-made thing, a prestige limited series where she has less to do but does it against far more experienced company. Chicken Nugget is the outlier, a register nothing else here prepares you for. Hope, where she plays Lim Sung-ae, is the only feature on her page and the first sign of where the film work goes. Her earliest appearances, including The Manager, are modeling-world television and are only interesting as a before picture.
