May's career has an odd shape for someone born in 2000. She began in television comedy, recurring as Veronica Duncan on Young Sheldon and then co-leading the Netflix sitcom Alexa & Katie as Katie Cooper from 2018 to 2020, a show pitched squarely at teenagers. What came next was not adjacent to any of that.
1883 cast her as Elsa Dutton and then handed her the narration of the entire series, so she is both the young woman crossing the plains and the voice framing the story around her. She kept that job into 1923, which ran to 2025, narrating a series she does not appear in. It is an unusual amount of authority to give a performer barely into her twenties, and the reason it works is that her voice sits lower and drier than her face suggests, so the narration never sounds like a child reading grand sentences.
In 2026 she joined the Scream franchise as Tatum Evans, daughter of Sidney Prescott, in Scream 7, which is the sort of casting that shapes the next several years of a career. Two more 2026 films sit alongside it, Love Language and Mr. Irrelevant: The John Tuggle Story. The earlier film work is thinner: Zoe Hull in the thriller Run Hide Fight, Leighton in the comedy I Want You Back, and a bit part in Age of Summer.

Where to start with Isabel May
1883 is the one that matters and the one to watch first. It is a hard, unsentimental western, and Elsa is written with an appetite for the world that makes the rest of the cast look weathered by comparison. Her narration carries the tone of the whole thing.
1923 continues that voice without her on screen, so treat it as a companion rather than a sequel to her performance. If you want the version of her that came before the westerns, Alexa & Katie is a warm, undemanding teen sitcom and she is genuinely good in it, and Young Sheldon is the earlier recurring work.
Run Hide Fight is the toughest film on the list and divided people sharply, I Want You Back is the lightest, and Scream 7 is the franchise job that everything now points towards.
