Iyanla Vanzant was a teenage mother on public assistance, went to law school in her thirties, practised as a public defender, and then became one of the biggest self-help authors in America. She is a Yoruba priest, which she does not soften for the audience. Oprah made her famous, they fell out publicly for a decade, and then she came back with her own show.
