Jack Canfield

Jack Canfield is an American author and motivational speaker who co-created Chicken Soup for the Soul, a series that publishers rejected more than a hundred times and which went on to more than 250 titles and half a billion copies in over forty languages. The format was simple and endlessly extensible: short true stories submitted by readers, arranged around an audience. He later co-wrote The Success Principles with Janet Switzer and appeared in The Secret, and his career is a fair case study in how the modern self-help industry actually assembled itself.

Where to start with Jack Canfield

Chicken Soup for the Soul is the original and the one to see the format in. Chicken soup for the teenage soul is the volume that turned it into a franchise, because it found an audience nobody was publishing for. Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul and Chicken soup for the unsinkable soul show the segmentation at work, and The Secret is where the philosophy went next.
