Jesse Spencer
Jesse Spencer is an actor, born 1979.
The Australian soap system produced him. He played Billy Kennedy on Neighbours and was nominated twice for Logie Awards for it, and the film work orbiting that period is slight: an English lord in the Olsen twins vehicle Winning London, a young Marwood de Whichehalse in Lorna Doone, Fritz Robinson in a Swiss Family Robinson adaptation, a boyfriend in Uptown Girls. None of it suggested what came next.
What came next was two decades of American network television, which is a specific kind of career and a harder one than it looks. He played Dr. Robert Chase on House for the run Wikipedia gives as 2004 to 2012, then moved almost straight into Chicago Fire as Matthew Casey, and the same character carries over into Chicago P.D. on this page. Anchoring an hour-long ensemble that long asks for consistency rather than fireworks: the same man, the same register, forty-odd hours a year, and no visible strain. He is very good at it.
He is also a musician, and the record here is unusually tidy for that reason. There is no scattered filmography, no genre detour, no straight-to-video stretch. Two long jobs, a soap before them, and a handful of early films most people will never see. It is the resume of someone who found what he was suited to early and stayed.

Where to start with Jesse Spencer
Start with House. Robert Chase is the role that got him out of Australian television, and the interesting thing is how much the part changes around him across eight years while he keeps the performance steady. Chicago Fire is the bigger commitment and the more likeable one: Matt Casey is a decent man written without irony, which is much harder to play than it reads. The crossover episodes in Chicago P.D. are for people already inside that universe and no use as an entry point. Of the films, Uptown Girls is the only one worth the search, and mostly as a curiosity. Winning London and Lorna Doone belong to the pre-fame file. Neighbours is where it started, and Australian soap runs to thousands of episodes, so treat it as history rather than a viewing plan.
