John Gegenhuber
John Gegenhuber is an actor.
There is a decent chance you have heard Gegenhuber far more often than you have seen him. Since 2013 he has been the voice of Cap'n Crunch, the sort of job that quietly outlasts most acting careers.
He was raised in Palatine, Illinois, and his earliest screen credit is the 1986 PBS telefilm Under the Biltmore Clock. What followed was a decade on the American guest-star circuit at its peak: Seinfeld in 1993, Murphy Brown in 1994, Star Trek: Voyager across 1995 and 1996, Mad About You and Law & Order in 1997, Seven Days in 1999. He was one of the stars of the NBC science fiction series Earth 2 from 1994 to 1995, playing Morgan Martin, a bureaucrat dropped onto a hostile planet with nothing useful to contribute, which is a thankless assignment he made worth watching.
The other long thread is SpongeBob. He voices Old Man Jenkins, the show's all-purpose ancient bystander, and has carried the character over into The Patrick Star Show and the 2024 SpongeBob SquarePants: Kreepaway Kamp, where he also voices Jimmy Blobfish and Anchovies. Between a cereal mascot and a running SpongeBob fixture, he has the kind of voice career that never makes anybody famous and never stops paying.

Where to start with John Gegenhuber
The voice work is the day job; the acting is the curiosity. Take Earth 2 first, because it is a genuine oddity: a mid-1990s network science fiction series with a colonist premise, far stranger than its timeslot suggests, and cancelled before it resolved anything. His Morgan Martin is the character everybody remembers being annoyed by, which in that show is a compliment.
For the voice work, SpongeBob SquarePants is the obvious route, though Old Man Jenkins appears irregularly, so treat him as a bonus rather than a search. The Patrick Star Show is the looser spin-off. SpongeBob Squarepants: Kreepaway Kamp gives him three credited voices at once. L.A. Doctors is a forgotten late-1990s medical drama with a decent cast, and Straight Talk is a Dolly Parton comedy in which he plays a waiter.
