Jonas Armstrong
Jonas Armstrong is an actor, born 1981.
Born in Dublin in 1981 and based in the United Kingdom, Armstrong got the sort of break that can define a career whether you want it to or not. He played the title role in the BBC's Robin Hood from 2006 to 2009, a Saturday-evening family adventure series, which meant he spent his twenties as the most recognizable outlaw on British television.
The interesting part is what he did next, which was to walk away from that register entirely. His subsequent work is almost all hard, unglamorous British drama in supporting positions: Hit and Miss, Prisoners' Wives, Ripper Street, The Street, Strike, Boat Story, After the Flood, and the first season of ITV's The Bay as Sean Meredith. Per Wikipedia he drew critical acclaim for playing Barry Bennell in the 2022 television film Floodlights, about abuse in youth football, which is not among the credits listed here.
The film work is smaller. Edge of Tomorrow used him as Skinner in a squad of soldiers, Book of Blood gave him a lead in a Clive Barker adaptation, and Walking with the Enemy cast him as Elek Cohen in a wartime drama. What he has become is a dependable British television actor with one enormous early credit and a body of work that keeps quietly arguing against it.

Where to start with Jonas Armstrong
Robin Hood is the famous one and the least representative, so watch an episode for context and then leave it. It is broad family adventure and it tells you almost nothing about what he can actually do.
The Bay is the better introduction: a Lancashire police drama with a bleak domestic register, and his first-season storyline is the one that gives the series its weight. Hit & Miss is the boldest thing on the list, a strange and sincere drama that almost nobody saw. Boat Story is the recent oddity, a black comic thriller that swings wildly and is more fun for it. Ripper Street is the period option, and Edge of Tomorrow is the blockbuster where you will spot him in the squad.
