Judyann Elder
Judyann Elder is an actor, born 1948.
Elder's two best-known jobs sit at opposite ends of a sitcom's life. On Martin she was Nadine Waters. On Family Matters she took over Harriette Winslow for the last eight episodes of the ninth and final season, after Jo Marie Payton left. Replacing an actress the audience has watched for a decade, with the show already packing up around her, is a thankless assignment, and she played it without apology and without imitation.
The rest is the working life of a Los Angeles character actress across decades of American television: Nurse Lily on Mad About You, Judge Miriam Reinhold on Becker, Ms. Crabtree on The Steve Harvey Show, Judy Dwyer on the cop drama Blind Justice, guest work on Benson and Wanda at Large. In film she is usually the authority figure with ninety seconds to establish a moral position, which is precisely what she does in The Players Club, Dead Man on Campus and Seven Pounds.
She is also a stage actress, and a director and a writer, with a long list of theatre work in the United States and Europe that no screen filmography reflects. That gap is worth naming, because it explains the authority she brings to parts written as furniture.

Family Matters is the stranger recommendation. Her eight episodes come at the very close of the run, and there is something quietly fascinating about an actress inheriting a beloved character while the set is being dismantled. It is not the Harriette anyone grew up with, and she does not pretend otherwise.
For the dramatic side, Seven Pounds and The Players Club are the two films where a short scene actually lands. Becker and The Steve Harvey Show are the reliable 1990s guest work, and Mad About You is the sharpest written of the three.
