Karolina Wydra
Karolina Wydra is an actor, born 1981.
Born in Opole and working in American television, Wydra has built a career out of parts that need someone slightly foreign, slightly unreadable, and quite often not human at all. She was Dominika on House, the vampire Violet Mazurski on True Blood, the detective Dianne Kubek on Wicked City, the alien Izel on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Zosia on Pluribus, which brought her a Saturn Award for supporting actress on television.
That list is a pattern rather than a coincidence, and it uses a real quality. She is very good at playing composure that might be concealing nothing whatsoever. American television usually treats an accent as a shortcut to menace or to comedy, and the roles that suit her are the ones where the writing lets the flatness be the character instead of the punchline.
The film work is smaller and best in the science fiction corner. Europa Report casts her as one of a crew of astronauts in a mission film assembled from onboard camera footage, a part that asks for technical calm and gets exactly that. Elsewhere she has taken supporting roles in studio comedies and horror pictures, Crazy, Stupid, Love. and Incarnate among them, that do not require much of her. It is a short filmography for a career this long, and the recent television work suggests the good parts have started arriving rather than stopping.

Where to start with Karolina Wydra
Europa Report is the best single thing she has done: a tight, unglamorous space film built out of mission-camera footage, with her at the centre of it. Watch that before anything else.
Pluribus is the current reason people look her up, and Zosia is the most interesting character she has been handed on television. House is worth a look for the Dominika episodes if you already follow the show, and Wicked City is a period procedural that did not survive its first season and was better than that fate suggests. On film, Crazy, Stupid, Love. and Be Kind Rewind are early bit parts, useful mainly as a record of where she started, and Incarnate is a horror programmer with one good idea.
