Kent Shocknek
Kent Shocknek is an actor, born 1956.
Kent Shocknek anchored television news in Los Angeles for long enough that, by the time he left, he was credited with more hours on air than anyone else in the city. He was Southern California's first morning news anchor and its longest running one, later anchored prime-time newscasts for CBS-owned stations, won an Emmy, and has had two separate days named in his honour by the city.
The acting career is a direct consequence of a face that audiences already trusted. He has appeared in more than a hundred films and television dramas, usually as precisely what he used to be: the anchor delivering the exposition, the reporter standing outside the building. He is the news anchor in Fast Five, in Disturbia, in Superhero Movie and in Secrets of Sulphur Springs, a reporter in Winged Creatures and Shark, the network reporter in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, and News Anchor Jack Stern in Brake.
The best of them is Nightcrawler, where he plays Kent Shocknek. A film about the economics of Los Angeles crime footage casting an actual Los Angeles news anchor as himself is a good joke, and it is played entirely straight.
A few parts have names attached: Guy Ross on NCIS, Hansen on FlashForward. And in Lilly Lives Alone in 2025 he is credited as Man Outside Grocery Store, which after a lifetime of anchor desks may be the most acting anyone has asked of him.

Where to start with Kent Shocknek
Nightcrawler is the only entry here that is a genuine recommendation as a film, and it happens to be the one where he plays himself, so it is the obvious place to start.
After that this becomes a spotting game rather than a filmography. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy puts a real anchor inside a film about fake ones. Fast Five and Disturbia are the highest-profile of the news-desk appearances, Brake at least gives the anchor a name, and FlashForward and NCIS are the two places where he plays a person rather than a function.
Nobody needs to watch all of these. The interesting thing is that a working newsreader built a second career out of being recognisably himself, and did it more than a hundred times.
