Kim Moo-yul
Kim Moo-yul is an actor, born 1982.
Musical theatre is an unusual road into Korean film, and it left a mark: Kim Moo-yul projects. Born in Seoul in 1982, he sang on stage before the camera work started, took minor parts in film and television, and got noticed for War of the Arrows in 2011. His first real lead came in Jung Ji-woo's Eungyo, released internationally as A Muse.
What he does better than almost anyone in his cohort is play men who are certain. His characters do not deliberate on screen; they have already decided, and the film has to catch up with them. That works when he is the pursuer, as Jung Tae-suk in The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil, and it works even better when the certainty is monstrous, which is the setting he uses for Baek Chang-gi in The Roundup: Punishment. Forgotten, where the credits list him under two names, is the exception, and it remains his best showcase for doubt.
Since then he has moved through everything on offer: the survival horror of Sweet Home, the space opera Space Sweepers, the courtroom procedural Juvenile Justice, the political comedy Honest Candidate and its sequel. He leads the 2026 series Teach You a Lesson. Thirty-seven credits in, he is still cast as both the man chasing and the man being chased, often within the same year.

Where to start with Kim Moo-yul
If I could push one entry point hardest it would be The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil: a broad, propulsive crime film where he holds the screen against a much bigger star, and it requires no familiarity with Korean cinema whatsoever. If you want the performance rather than the vehicle, Forgotten is the one, a tight thriller that asks him to be two different men without signalling which is which.
The Roundup: Punishment is the popcorn option, and he is enormously enjoyable in it. War of the Arrows is where the recognition began, a period action film with some of the best archery ever staged.
On television, Sweet Home is the loudest and Juvenile Justice the best written, with him as the softer of its two judges. Space Sweepers and Illang: The Wolf Brigade are the swings that did not fully land, and Eungyo is the early lead that opened the serious phase.
