Lauren Patten's reputation was built in a theatre, not on a set. She originated the role of Jo in the Broadway musical Jagged Little Pill and won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for it, a rare case of a supporting part in a jukebox show becoming the reason people bought tickets. She is a singer and a writer as well as an actor, and the stage is where all three meet.
The screen career has run alongside that rather than replacing it, and it looks like the filmography of somebody who lives in New York and takes the good New York jobs. Officer Rachel Witten on Blue Bloods is the longest of them, a recurring uniform on a procedural that has run for well over a decade. Where to start with Lauren Patten
The best writing she has been handed on screen came from The Good Fight, where Polly Dean is exactly the kind of part that show did well: brief, specific, built for an actor who can turn a scene on a single line. Watch that first.
Blue Bloods is the volume option, Rachel Witten across a long stretch of a procedural you can drop into anywhere, and Death and Other Details is the glossy closed-circle mystery, more fun than it was given credit for. Off Campus is the 2026 arrival and the one to watch for.
