Liza Weil
Liza Weil is an actor, born 1977.
Liza Weil already had an early credit on The Adventures of Pete & Pete and a small part in the 1999 horror film Stir of Echoes when Gilmore Girls cast her as Paris Geller in 2000. The role ran across the show's whole life and came back for the 2016 revival, A Year in the Life.
Paris is the reason to study her technique. The character is written as an aggression machine: fast, humourless, permanently escalating. Weil plays that speed as a defence rather than a personality, and lets a small crack open at the end of a line often enough that Paris stays sympathetic while remaining genuinely unpleasant to be around. Very few comic performers can hold that ratio for seven years.
Her second long run went the other way. As Bonnie Winterbottom on How to Get Away with Murder from 2014 to 2020 she played almost everything under the surface, quiet and watchful in a show where everyone else was shouting. Before that she appeared as the White House aide Amanda Tanner in Scandal. Elsewhere the credits are scattered and often small: Trishelle in Year of the Dog, Ashley Filmore on Eleventh Hour, Dr. Jenkins in Smiley, Katherine Russo on The Cleaning Lady, Miss Beard in The Passenger, plus Mosquito and the 2026 film Lunar Sway.

Where to start with Liza Weil
There is no argument about the way in: Gilmore Girls and Paris Geller. What is worth saying is where to look inside it, which is the long argumentative monologues, where the writing hands Weil paragraphs instead of lines and she never drops a syllable. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life revisits the character as an adult and is sharper about her than the original ever was.
Then switch registers with How to Get Away with Murder, where Bonnie Winterbottom is built almost entirely out of stillness and Weil holds the screen without raising her voice once. Year of the Dog is the small indie worth finding, Stir of Echoes the early bit part, and The Cleaning Lady the recent regular job.
