Mahesh Jadu
Mahesh Jadu is an actor, born 1982.
Eight credits sit in this catalogue, which badly understates an Australian career but does accurately reflect how Jadu became internationally recognisable: two Netflix series, several years apart. He was born in Carlton, Victoria, to parents of Mauritian heritage with family roots in Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh, and grew up in Perth.
Ahmad in Marco Polo came first, a court operator inside a lavish and short-lived historical epic, and it is exactly the sort of role that teaches an actor to hold a scene without raising his voice. Vilgefortz of Roggeveen in The Witcher is the one people know him for, and his choice there is restraint. In a series full of characters declaiming at each other, he plays a sorcerer who does almost none of it, and the performance works by withholding rather than announcing.
The film work is supporting and scattered across territories: Ophir in I, Frankenstein, a Spanish soldier in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the Sadhu in The Furnace, Rudra Yash in Ice Road: Vengeance, an assassin in The Lovers. He is also a writer and producer, and co-founded the production company Akaasha Media, which reads as an actor who has decided to make his own work rather than wait for someone to offer it.

Where to start with Mahesh Jadu
The Witcher is where to start, with the caveat that his part takes a while to matter. Vilgefortz is slow-burn casting, and the pleasure is retrospective: on a rewatch you notice how carefully Jadu keeps him uninteresting right up until the show needs him not to be.
Marco Polo is the better showcase for what he does with limited room. It is an expensive series that never entirely justified itself, but the court scenes are its strongest material and Ahmad sits at the centre of them. The Furnace is the one to seek out if you want a real performance in a real film instead of a supporting turn in a franchise. I, Frankenstein and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales are paycheque work, and Ice Road: Vengeance is the recent action credit.
