Mandy Gonzalez
Mandy Gonzalez is an actor, born 1978.
The important work is not on film, and pretending otherwise would misread the career entirely. Gonzalez, born in Los Angeles in 1978, originated Nina Rosario in In the Heights off Broadway and then on it, played Elphaba in Wicked across 2010 and 2011, and spent six years, from 2016 to 2022, as Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton. In 2024 she joined Jamie Lloyd's Broadway revival of Sunset Boulevard as the alternate Norma Desmond. Those are four of the most demanding singing roles the American musical has produced in a generation, and she has held three of them for long runs.
The screen credits are what a stage actor accumulates between contracts, and the list is honest about that: a manager in Man on a Ledge (2012), Ashley in Over/Under, Lucy Knox on Madam Secretary, Mrs. Wadsworth in Better Nate Than Ever (2022).
The two that use the actual instrument are the sung ones. She provides the singing for the character Sadie in Across the Universe (2007) and voices Mother Rose in Alice's Wonderland Bakery, where the demands are closer to what she does eight times a week when she is not on camera.

Where to start with Mandy Gonzalez
Across the Universe is where to start, because it is the only credit here that puts her voice at the centre of a scene. She sings for the character Sadie, and hearing what she can do with a Beatles arrangement explains the stage career faster than any biography.
Better Nate Than Ever is the natural second stop, a film about Broadway kids that is entirely in on the joke of casting real theatre performers in it. Alice's Wonderland Bakery is the voice work, aimed at very young children and sung properly rather than approximately.
For the straight acting, Madam Secretary gives her the most screen time and Man on a Ledge the least. Stars in the House is the one that shows her closest to her natural habitat: performers singing to camera during a period when nobody could get on a stage at all.
