Marcia Mitzman Gaven is an actor, born 1959.
Marcia Mitzman Gaven is a musical theatre performer whose screen record is a small fraction of her actual career. She studied at the High School of Performing Arts and at the State University of New York at Purchase, sings in both mezzo soprano and soprano ranges, and made her Broadway debut in 1979 taking over as Betty Rizzo in Grease from Adrienne Barbeau. Through the 1980s she worked steadily in musicals, among them The Rocky Horror Show, Oliver!, Zorba, Nine, Anything Goes and Chess, along with Brigadoon, South Pacific and Sweeney Todd.
On screen she is best known without ever being seen, as the voice of Helen Lovejoy on The Simpsons. The rest of the filmography is bit parts: a bondsman in The Bonfire of the Vanities, a fashion plate in Moonlight Mile, a screamer in the 2020 film Alone, plus the mid nineties sitcom Life's Work. That is a thin record for a working performer, and it is thin for the good reason that the work was happening on a stage.

Where to start with Marcia Mitzman Gaven
Her screen work has a single door, and it is The Simpsons. Helen Lovejoy is a small, perfectly engineered comic instrument, the reverend's wife, permanently scandalised, deployed whenever a scene needs somebody appalled on behalf of the whole town. Listen for the pitch of it, which is a trained singer's control being spent on a joke.
Everything else is a footnote. The Bonfire of the Vanities and Moonlight Mile give her a line or two apiece in films worth watching for other reasons, Alone lists her as a screamer, which tells you the size of the part, and Life's Work is a sitcom of its moment.
