Melissa McBride
Melissa McBride is an actor, born 1965.
Melissa McBride worked for seventeen years before the part that mattered. She debuted in 1993 and spent the following decades in the places character actors pass through: American Gothic, Walker Texas Ranger, Dawson's Creek, a role in Pirates of Silicon Valley. Wikipedia says she starred in The Mist in 2007; the credit reads "Woman With Kids at Home", which is a fair summary of the career to that point.
Carol Peletier was supposed to be minor too. She was cast small on The Walking Dead in 2010 and the part kept growing until she was a main cast member, billed second in the opening titles from 2020, one of only two actors to appear in every season of the show. The role won her a Saturn Award and a long list of nominations, and the reason is a specific skill: McBride plays people who have already made a decision and have not announced it. She can hold a scene by withholding, and the writers learned to build episodes around that.
When The Walking Dead ended in 2022 she carried Carol into the spinoff The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, a rare case of a supporting player outliving the series that created her. Outside that universe the filmography is nearly empty, which is either a shame or a measure of how much one part can absorb.

Where to start with Melissa McBride
There is no way in other than The Walking Dead, and that is a real commitment, so here is the shortcut: the early seasons treat Carol as background, and she only becomes the reason to watch around the prison stretch. If you are sampling, start there rather than at episode one.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is the character's current home and works well as a two-hander, with far better locations than the parent show ever had. The Walking Dead: Origins is a recap that will orient you fast if you want the context without the hours.
Outside the franchise there is very little. Pirates of Silicon Valley is a decent film with a small McBride part in it, and The Mist is a strong adaptation in which she is barely present.
