Natalie Babbitt is an author.
Natalie Zane Babbitt was an American writer and illustrator of children's books, best known for Tuck Everlasting, published in 1975 and adapted twice for film and once as a Broadway musical. She received a Newbery Honor and a Christopher Award, and in 1982 she was the United States nominee for the Hans Christian Andersen Award. Her books are short, plain and unusually willing to sit with the questions adults avoid in children's fiction: what immortality would cost, what a life is worth, whether a story owes anyone comfort. She illustrated much of her own work.

Tuck Everlasting is the one, and it is worth reading as an adult: a hundred and fifty pages that ask a child whether living forever is a gift, and refuse to make the choice easy. Jack Plank tells tales is the late, gentler book, a sequence of tall tales told by a retired pirate. Prentice Hall Literature--Copper carries her short work in the classroom anthologies where most American readers first met her.
