Peter Cetera
Peter Cetera sang and played bass in Chicago for eighteen years, wrote or co-wrote several of the songs everyone knows, and left in 1985 after the band would not accommodate a solo album. What followed was a run of enormous eighties ballads, including two number ones, which made him a punchline to people who preferred the horn-driven early Chicago and a fixture to everyone else. He retired from performing in 2019, and the voice was always the band's commercial engine.

Where to start with Peter Cetera
The catalogue holds no albums for him, only a film. Electra Glide in Blue is a 1973 motorcycle-cop picture that several members of Chicago appear in, which is a genuine curiosity rather than a musical recommendation. For the actual work, the Chicago records from the late sixties through the mid-eighties carry his voice, and the 1986 solo album is where the ballad era properly starts.
