Robert Axelrod
Robert Axelrod is an actor, born 1949.
Robert Axelrod was born in New York City in 1949 and worked under three names across his career: his own, Axel Roberts, and Myron Mensah. He started dubbing English-language versions of anime in 1980, which was then unglamorous piecework rather than a career path, and it became the spine of everything that followed. His on-camera work stayed in the character-actor margins: a hotel clerk, a security guard, a man credited only as Man. The 1988 remake of The Blob gave him something better, a sympathetic doctor named Jennings.
What made him permanent was a rubber suit and a microphone. As Lord Zedd on Power Rangers he voiced the show's chief villain, and as Finster he voiced the monster maker who built its weekly threats. Zedd worked because the performance had to survive being filtered through a costume and a speaker, so nothing subtle would land. Axelrod attacked the part with an over-articulated theatrical relish, closer to a stage villain than a cartoon growl, which is exactly why a whole generation can still do the impression on request. He carried the same voice into the 1995 feature.
Late on he found an unexpected second audience with Tim and Eric, whose comedy runs on the committed straight-faced strangeness he had been supplying to children's television for years. He appeared in their film and in Check It Out! with Dr. Steve Brule. He also played a Paul McCartney look-alike on Family Matters. Axelrod died in 2019.

Where to start with Robert Axelrod
Power Rangers is the entry point and there is no honest alternative. Lord Zedd is the performance he is remembered for, and the series is where the voice had room to swagger. Pick a Zedd-heavy stretch rather than the pilot, since he arrives after the show is already running.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie gives the same voice a bigger budget and a straighter face, which is interesting mostly as contrast. From there, the dub work is the real body of his career, and Digimon: The Movie shows what a decade of that piecework buys you in timing.
For the live-action Axelrod, The Blob is the one worth your evening, a nasty and genuinely well-made remake where he gets an actual character rather than a job title. Then jump forward to Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie and Check It Out! with Dr. Steve Brule to see him repurposed as a cult-comedy fixture. Murphy's Law and Kinjite: Forbidden Subjects are Charles Bronson programmers he passes through; skip them unless you want the full ledger.
