Rodney Saulsberry
Rodney Saulsberry is an actor, born 1956.
Rodney Saulsberry has one of those careers that is everywhere and almost never named. He worked on camera through the early eighties in whatever parts were going: the daytime soap Capitol, an ambulance attendant on The A-Team, an officer on Hunter, a technician on Misfits of Science, a doctor in The Philadelphia Experiment, Reggie in the 1981 television film Death of a Centerfold.
The voice is what lasted. He was Joe Robertson across the 1994 Spider-Man animated series, played Rhodey in the animated The Invincible Iron Man, voiced the Chyron in the Animatrix segment Matriculated, and did Freight Train and Bud in The Little Engine That Could. Alongside that runs a commercial and announcer career, three books about the trade, You Can Bank on Your Voice, Step Up to the Mic, and a collection of tongue twisters and vocal warm-ups, plus a podcast, Success Talks.
He is still working. In 2026 he appears as a pastor in Spider-Noir, more than thirty years after he first voiced a character in a Spider-Man cartoon, which is an unusually long lap around one comic-book universe.

Where to start with Rodney Saulsberry
Try Spider-Man first. Robbie Robertson is a supporting part in a crowded show, but the series is a good demonstration of what Saulsberry does with a voice: authority without weight, warm instead of booming.
The Animatrix is the better-made object, and his piece of it is Matriculated, the strangest short in that anthology. The Invincible Iron Man gives him Rhodey in animated form. The Little Engine That Could is the children's end of the catalogue. For the on-camera years, The A-Team and Hunter are the eighties television he was doing between voice sessions, and Spider-Noir is the 2026 return.
