Roh Yoon-seo is an actor, born 2000.
Two 2022 credits did the work of a decade. Our Blues dropped Roh into an ensemble of long-established Korean actors and she did not look outmatched, while 20th Century Girl handed her the lead in a period teen romance that found an audience well beyond the usual one.
The following year Crash Course in Romance made her properly famous, and it is the clearest demonstration of what she does. She plays teenagers carrying adult quantities of pressure, and she lets you see the effort of keeping it presentable, which is a harder note than the sweetness she gets described with. Best New Actress awards followed for that and for Hear Me: Our Summer, after which the press handed her the nickname Nation's First Love.
What she has done with the goodwill is the interesting part. Black Knight and The Frog are both bleak, unglamorous genre pieces rather than romance follow-ups, and The East Palace is still ahead of her. For an actress handed a sweetheart label this early, that reads as a deliberate refusal of the easy road, and it is the reason her next few years are worth watching rather than merely pleasant.

Where to start with Roh Yoon-seo
20th Century Girl is the best single showcase, a film that rests almost entirely on her face through its second half and gets away with it. Watch that first if you want to understand the fuss.
Crash Course in Romance is the wider entry point and the more purely enjoyable one, a warm drama about exam pressure that lets her be funny. Our Blues is the prestige credit, and her strand of it makes the strongest case for her range. Hear Me: Our Summer is the quiet one, a small romance played in a much lower register. And if you want the version of her that is not sweet at all, Black Knight and The Frog are where to go.
