Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is an actor, born 1987.

Rosie Alice Huntington-Whiteley was born in Plymouth in 1987 and grew up on her parents' farm in Devon. She has modelled since 2003, for Abercrombie & Fitch, Burberry, Bloomingdale's, Ralph Lauren and DKNY, started with Victoria's Secret in 2006, and was named one of the label's Angels in November 2009 at twenty-two. That commercial line is the actual career: the face of Burberry Body in 2011, a long run with Marks & Spencer, and a design collaboration with the denim brand Paige.

Acting has been an occasional detour rather than a second profession, and the honest shape of it is three screen credits, one of them a runway special in which she appears as herself. The two films are worth separating rather than lumping together. One handed her a leading role in a franchise sequel that asked very little of anybody in it. The other put her, with a handful of lines, inside one of the best action films of the century. Both facts are true at the same time, and neither one turns her into a working actress.

Where to start with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Mad Max: Fury Road is the only thing here that anyone needs to see, and it is worth being precise about why. Huntington-Whiteley plays The Splendid Angharad, one of the wives in flight across the desert, in a film that does most of its acting in close-up at speed with an engine screaming underneath. She holds the frame. That is a real compliment in that company, and it is also the whole of her case as a screen performer.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon is the other option, a very loud and very long robot picture that wants her looked at more than listened to, and she is better than the material without being able to rescue it. Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is the archive, and it is the right place to go if the modelling is what brought you.
