Ruskin Bond
Ruskin Bond is an Indian author and poet whose first novel, The Room on the Roof, won the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize after its publication in 1956, when he was in his early twenties. Since then he has written more than 500 short stories, essays and novels, including sixty-nine books for children, most of them set in the Himalayan foothills. He won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1992 for Our Trees Still Grow in Dehra, the Padma Shri in 1999 and the Padma Bhushan in 2014, which makes him about as decorated as an Indian writer in English can be.

Where to start with Ruskin Bond
Angry River (Passport Student) is the one to start with, a short flood story for young readers that carries far more weight than its length suggests. 7 Khoon Maaf is the film adapted from his novella Susanna's Seven Husbands, and he appears in it briefly as a man at a bar. Impact--Second Edition is a school reader that collects him alongside others, which is how a great many Indian readers first met him.
