Sayumi Suzushiro

Kanagawa Prefecture produced her and the Arts Vision agency represents her, but the career proper starts in 2018, when Sayumi Suzushiro was handed her first main role: Akira Ono in the arcade-set series Hi Score Girl. Two years later she took the Best Rookie Award at the 14th Seiyu Awards, which is the Japanese industry's way of saying a newcomer has arrived and will be busy.

Busy is the right word. What the credit list actually shows is the shape of a working seiyuu's life rather than a star vehicle: close to seventy roles, overwhelmingly in television anime, most of them supporting, spread across whatever the production committees were making that season. She voices Uruka Takemoto in We Never Learn and Wise in Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks, plus Kylie in The Magnificent Kotobuki, which is not among the credits listed here.

The roles people now recognise her by are ensemble parts in big shows: Nijika Ijichi in BOCCHI THE ROCK!, Kurena Kukumila in 86 EIGHTY-SIX, Lawine in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Kei Shirogane in Kaguya-sama: Love Is War. Her handful of film credits are extensions of series she already worked on, the KONOSUBA features and the Kaguya-sama film among them, which is exactly how anime features get made.

The genre spread is the industry's own: isekai, school comedy, fantasy adventure, slice of life, with the occasional horror or mystery series to break the pattern. She is one of the voices holding a whole season of television together, several seasons running.
