Shin Hyun-been
Shin Hyun-been is an actor, born 1986.
Two entries in this list share a character name, and that is the fastest way into her career. Shin Hyun-been played Jang Gyeo-ul in Hospital Playlist and plays her again in Resident Playbook, which means a role built in 2020 was still worth returning to five years later. It was not a showy part. Gyeo-ul is the quiet one in a warm ensemble, and Shin made her memorable by underplaying everything the format invited her to sell.
Born Kwak Hyun-been, she started in film with He's on Duty in 2010 and moved to television the following year with Warrior Baek Dong-soo, then spent most of a decade in supporting roles before the hospital series changed her standing.
What she did with that standing is the interesting part. Rather than consolidate into romantic leads she went the other way, into a run of bleak, well-made Korean genre pictures: Beasts Clawing at Straws, The Closet, Take Point, Revelations, The Ugly. She is very good in the cold register, better than the scripts often require, and she has the useful quality of looking like she is thinking rather than reacting. Colony is listed here for 2026. She has arrived at the position of being nobody's obvious casting choice and quite a lot of directors' actual one.

Where to start with Shin Hyun-been
Hospital Playlist is the right start even though she is not its lead, because it explains why everyone else on this list wanted her. Then go straight to Beasts Clawing at Straws as the corrective: a nasty, tightly wound crime film that uses none of the warmth. Resident Playbook returns her to Gyeo-ul if you want the comfort back.
Reborn Rich and Confession are the solid television middle, and The Closet is the horror option, more atmospheric than frightening. Revelations and The Ugly are the recent, harder films, and the best evidence of where she is heading.
