Steve-O
Steve-O is an actor, born 1974.
Stephen Glover was born in Wimbledon in 1974 and became an American cultural fixture under a stage name. Jackass arrived on MTV in 2000 and turned a small group of skaters, pranksters and stuntmen into a franchise, and inside it Steve-O had a specific job: the escalator. When a stunt needed someone who would actually go through with the worst version of it, the crew looked at him.
The comedy is not the stunt. It is his face before and after. He commits with an enthusiasm that reads as genuinely unhinged, then surfaces grinning, and the gap between what has happened to his body and how delighted he is about it is the whole act. Wildboyz, the spin-off that dropped him into wildlife documentary territory, is the purest distillation.
The film run is long: Jackass: The Movie in 2002, Number Two in 2006, 3D in 2010, Forever in 2022, plus the outtake features 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5, with Best and Last still to come. Scripted acting has been occasional and knowingly cast, from Barely Lethal to Game Over, Man! and Guest House.
Everything else is talk: Ridiculousness, The Eric Andre Show, Hot Ones, a stint on Name That Tune. He has aged into an elder statesman of a form that was never designed to have any, which is a strange and genuinely hard-won position.

Where to start with Steve-O
Correct starting point: Jackass: The Movie rather than the series, because the first film is where the format found its scale and its editing rhythm. From there, Jackass Number Two is the peak of the entire enterprise and the one where Steve-O is at his most reckless. Jackass Forever is the late one and unexpectedly moving, a group of middle-aged men doing this to each other again out of something that looks a lot like affection. Wildboyz is the best thing with his name on it if you want him rather than the ensemble. Jackass itself is still worth an episode for the low-resolution original energy. Of the scripted work, Game Over, Man! uses him best, and The Eric Andre Show is where the timing shows.
